A New Operative Technique on Multiple Pinning of the Hip Joint Fractures


Abstract
Fifteen cases of hip joint fracture were treated with multiple pinning under portable x-ray from March, 1979 to February 1981. Most of these cases were above sixty years old combined and with other systemic diseases, such as diabetes, C.O.P.D., hypertension and coronary insufficiency, chronic hepatitis and liver cirrhosis. As the purpose of early sitting and pain relief, percutaneous multiple pinning was performed using a ordinary portable x-ray with a new measuring wires which were designed at the Korea University Hospital.
The results were as followings:
1. Thirteen (87%) cases of all were over 60 years of age group.
2. Site of franctures were predominantly five (33%) in intertrochanteric, four (27%) in transcervical, three (20%) in subcapital and three (20%) in basal neck region.
3. The causes of fracture were nine cases (60%) in slip down, five(33%) in traffic accident, and one (7%) in industrial accident.
4. Pre-existing diseases were five(33%) cases in C.O.P.D., five(33%) in hypertension and coronary insufficiency, three(20/6) in diabetes mellitus, and two(149o/) in chronic hepatitis and liver cirrhosis.
5. This operative technique is the simplest, safest and most effective method of treating the fracture in elderly patients with systemic diseases.
